Willibald Krain
1886-1945
Krain studied Art at the Royal Acadademies of Breslau and Munich. From 1909 onwards he worked as an independent artist, specializing in illustrations for the famous left-wing publications Die Jugend, Der Simplizissiumus and Die Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung.
Already in 1933 his work was on the list of forbidden works and he was not allowed to work. He fought in WWI and shortly in WWII and died of a shot-wound in Dresden in 1945.
Most of his work criticizes the social circumstances of his time.
